Vodafone India has partnered with Nokia to deliver SmartAgri solutions to Indian farmers in the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

Vodafone India, the CSR arm of Vodafone Idea (VI), has partnered with Nokia, a popular telecom gears manufacturer, to deploy a smart Agro solution in the Indian states Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The new initiative is aimed at improving the productivity of the farmers. Almost 100 cities are covered under this pilot project, and it is estimated that almost 50k farmers will benefit from this. CSR arm of the telco stated that the new initiative was started to show how technology can transform the agricultural practices in India. Vi CSR has chosen the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra because they are the heartlands of Indian agriculture and by adding Nokia’s IoT to the mix, desired results can certainly be achieved.

Small-scale farmers can benefit exuberantly from these SmartAgri projects, and the main motto behind all this is to improve the way information is being accessed by using the right technology. Various significance like land scarcity, climate change, among others and seen are a hurdle in the way farmer’s productivity is affected. By delivering the relevant information, technologies can help the farmers meet the challenges and also give them advice on matters like soil quality, plant growth cycle, and weather forecast.
