IEC Telecom Group, a popular satcom solutions provider, recently made an announcement regarding its OneGate Marine Compact launch. The new offering aims to equip vessels of small and medium-size in Asia with connectivity similar to VSAT. This is achieved by optimizing the L-band capacity in the solution. Initially, the OneGate Marine Compact was made available only in Europe, and following its success, the company wants to launch the solution in Asia. Almost 50 percent of the Asian region's shipping activities are carried out by small and medium-sized vessels. Previously the connectivity option was available only to the larger vessels.
The maritime communication sector is often known for underserving the fleet of small and medium-sized boats. This was mainly due to the fact that the already existing VSAT terminals are not compatible with smaller fleets as they are highly sensitive to movements. IEC Telecom Group wanted to bring a solution that can optimize L-band capacity and function just like the VSAT. By effectively optimizing the L-Band, the vessel owners can embrace digitalization. Asia's IEC Telecom Group CEO, Nabil Ben Soussia, stated that the pandemic was unexpected when they launched their products, and it has come at the right time to help the small and medium-sized vessel owners.
