Tech Mahindra and Rakuten join hands to build 5G labs in Tokyo and India

Tech Mahindra enters into a collaboration with Japanese electronic company, Rakuten to set up the next generation 4G and 5G network labs in Tokyo and Bengaluru. “Our collaboration with Rakuten will help us further drive innovation in the 5G space and enable us to enhance customer experience and lead the transformation in mobile network technology”, said CP Gurnani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tech Mahindra.

Rakuten is up for investing USD 5 billion in the launch of fourth mobile network in Japan, after NTT Docomo, KDDI and Softbank Group.As indicated by Mickey Mikitani, Chairman, President and CEO of Rakuten, the company has plans to launch its services in October 2019. Tech Mahindra has a good hold in the space of 5G mobile networks, cloud, IT and enterprise applications, and Rakuten hopes to tap into this capability to develop a completely automated 5G ready network in Japan and beyond. Moreover, Rakuten will also get the advantages of Tech Mahindra’s network integration capabilities. The collaboration is expected to strengthen Indo-Japan business ties.

Tech Mahindra puts major focus on 5G technology and partners with several service providers across the globe to help them better their networks. Gurnani also talks of the unrivalled opportunities that every industry vertical and domain can offer if properly utilised with the help of 5G technology. With more and more innovations coming up, the technology has the potential to further improve customer experience and bring a huge transformation in mobile network technology.
