The ranking battle between networks providers continue as Bharati Airtel may have secured the first position in terms of revenue share in the March quarter, reports from analysts suggest. The reports also suggest that Reliance Jio Infocomm is estimated to have become the second largest, which also means that Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) dominancy may have lasted less than eight months.
Statistics by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) shows that Vodafone Idea Ltd continues to be in the first postion in terms of subscribers, with Airtel securing the second spot, and Jio is also closing the gap fast.
People familiar with the matter said, Reliance Jiomay have fallen behind Vodafone Idea in terms of rankings, but will come close to Airtel’s expected revenue market share (RMS) of 32-33% in the next three months.
According to reports by Finch, at the March end Vodafone had about 30 percent share, while Airtel had 32 percent and Jio 31 percent respectively. Trai data suggest that during last year’s September, Vodafone ranked topped in the market with 32.8 percent RMS, while Airtel at 30.9 percent and Jio at 26.1 percent.
In terms of customers, Vodafone Idea has lost about 5.78 million subscribers between January and February and Airtel lost about 49,896 in the same period. While in the same period, Reliance Jio added 7.79 million customers under its belt. The March–end reports have not been reported by its rivals.
The queries were not responded by Bharti Airtel, Jio or Vodafone Idea.
