Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was recently approached by Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd to create a schedule that is mandatory for the periodic spectrum auctions. This was requested mainly due to the fact that telecom operators often end up waiting too long to meet their network requirements. SpaceX is also interested in promoting new broadband services in India, and the company led by Elon Musk is also pushing to use satellites for enhancing efficiency and better connectivity. In regards to the consultation paper that was floated around by the TRAI, Jio stated that the four years gap in between auctions seems very inexplicable from the government, and furthermore, it was added that there is a huge amount of spectrum that is often unutilized and remains unproductive.
Anshu Prakash, the Telecom secretary of India, had received a letter from Jio in September. In its letter, Jio had questioned about the pause in the annual spectrum auction and also stated that the airways must be held soon to be able to meet the ever-growing demands for the data services. In the TRAI paper, JIO had commented that the operators must have more spectrums in their hands to ensure that the data speed similar to other comparable or large economies.
