Department of Telecom Allocates Spectrum for 5G Trials to Telecom Operators

The department of telecom (DoT) has stated that it has allocated a spectrum to telecom operators to start the most awaited 5G trials in the country. The trials will be conducted in various cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Gujarat, Hyderabad, and other places. The DoT further added that the operators had been allocated with spectrum in 700 MHz band and 24.25-28.5 GHz bandwidth across various locations.

DoT had approved the applications from telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and MTNL for conducting the 5G trials without using any operating technologies furnished by the Chinese companies and will only be using indigenously built technologies. Based on this, DoT had approved the trials. Also, the telecom department has approved trials of Ericson, Nokia, Samsung, and C-DOT.

As per the reports, DoT 5G technology is expected to provide ten times superior quality download speed than that of the 4G and three times higher spectrum efficiency and quality. Also, the 5G trials will conduct other test trials on various technologies like telemedicine, tele-education, and drone-based agriculture modeling and monitoring using the latest 5G technology.
