Airtel and Tata Group Partner to Implement 5G Networks Solutions in India

Indian telecom giant Airtel and Tata Group have announced a strategic partnership that will help both implement 5G networks solutions for India.

Tata Group has developed anO-RAN based Radio & NSA/ SA Core and integrated a totally indigenoustelecom stack. Tata Group is availing this for commercial development in the beginning of 2022. Under the Group, Tata Consultancy Services will bring its global system integration expertise and help align end-to-end solution to both 3GPP and O-RAN Standard.

Airtel will deploy this indigenous solution as part of its 5G rollout plans in India. The pilot is expected to start in January 2022. When the 5G solutions prove their commercial viability, they will be made available for export.

“We are delighted to join forces with the Tata Group to make India a global hub for 5G and allied technologies. With its world-class technology ecosystem and talent pool, India is well positioned to build cutting edge solutions and applications for the world. This will also provide a massive boost to India becoming an innovation and manufacturing destination,” said GopalVittal, MD & CEO (India and South Asia) BhartiAirtel.

Earlier this year, Airtelbecame the first telecom company in India to demonstrate 5G over its LIVE network in Hyderabad, a city located in the southern part of India. The company is currently holding 5G trials in major cities across India.
