Assam’s online data the National Register of Citizen’s (NRC) which shows the details of included and excluded persons has been disappeared from the NRC official website. The details were made available online in October last year as per the Supreme Court’s order. The officials and authorities have announced that the reason behind this could be the expiration of cloud storage system and also the software was experiencing an unusual signal breakdown.
“The data have vanished especially when appeals process has not even started due to the go-slow attitude adopted by the NRC Authority. There is, therefore, ample scope to suspect that the disappearance of online data is a mala fide act and is prima facie a deliberate violation of the directive issued by the Honorable Supreme Court,”Assam leader of opposition DebabrataSaikia stated.
An official source said, the data which was stored on the cloud storage system which was provided by WIPRO has been expired and the renewal of the subscription was not done at the right time as there was no coordinator. The state government has responded to this issue and has stated that the renewal process is underway and the data will be recovered and will be available online within few days.
