“Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History”, says Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, investor who is the founder, CEO, and chairman of Amazon. He was born on January 12th, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But spent most of his days in Huston, Texas and completed his graduation from Princeton University in 1986 in electrical engineering and computer science. His career in Wall Street lasted for 8 years until he founded Amazon in late 1994 on a cross-country road trip from NY City to Seattle.

He is active from 1987 till the present time and is also known for Blue Origin. Currently, his net worth is $144.0 billion with various honors and awards. Jeff Bezos is married to Mackenzie Bezos since 1993 and has four kids.

The first steps in his career

Jeff was offered various jobs from firms like Intel, Andersen Consulting, Bell Labs, and many others right after he finished his graduation in 1987. But he chose to work with Fitel which was a financial telecommunication start-up. His role was to build a network for international trade. Eventually, became the head of development and director of customer service. Months later he was hired as a product manager at Bankers Trust. He was part of Banker Trust from 1988 to 1990 and later from 1009 to 1994 was part of D.E Shaw and Co as the fourth senior vice president at the age of 30. It was at this time when he started working on Amazon. In late 1993 he started the online bookstore and left his last company.  Officially Jeff founded Amazon on July 5, 1994, in his garage after writing the business plan while he was on a trip from NY to Seattle.  

By 1998 Bezos expanded to other products and raised around $54 million. In 2002, Amazon Web Services was launched that compiled data from weather channels and website traffic. Kindle was later introduced to the world in November 2007 allowing many to move the digital era.

In 2013 Amazon was named the largest online shopping retailer in the world and as time went on Amazon became the world’s largest firm by expanding in various regions.

Recognition Jeff Bezos Received over the Years

He got his first award in 1999 through Time by naming him “Person of the Year”. Later in 2008 U.S News & World Report said he was one of America’s best leaders. 2011 he got an award for Amazon Kindle and Later the next year Fortune named him the “business person of the Year”. In September 2016 he received $250,000 prize money for winning the “Heinlein Prize for Advances in Space Commercialization”. In 2018, Jeff was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for leadership and innovation in space exploration, autonomous systems and building a commercial pathway for human space flight. Germany’s Axel Springer also gave him an award for innovation and social responsibility. Time magazine added him to the list of 100 most influential people in the world.
