The Silicon Review
07 June, 2018
Apple has finally decided to integrate Siri with apps like Spotify. This year at the World Wide Developers Conference, Apple declared a new Play Media intent for developers with Siri Shortcuts. This would help the user to summon audio or video media from other apps. Over the years Siri is believed to be one of the most incompetent experiences on iOS. However, this time at WWDC the company introduced certain updates to the interface making it easier for the users to create their own commands.
Siri suggestions allow the digital assistant to learn from user behavior. For example, if you place a regular coffee order, Siri would suggest that you place it around the same time of the day every day. If you’re running late to a meeting then Siri would suggest that you drop a message letting them know that you’re on your way.
There is an entirely different app called Shortcuts that allows users to take control of Siri and build custom command that integrates with third-party apps through an ‘add to Siri’ button. Even music streaming apps like Spotify will soon be able to let users play music through their app with the help of Siri Shortcuts Features.
The only drawback to this feature is that this is a developer’s tool and the support relies on apps that will be integrated with iOS 12. With proper integrations, the feature would help you launch the app in the background so you do not have to manually operate the phone since Siri would be able to handle playback controls for the app.
