BC Transit, the Canadian public transport corporation, is to implement Next Ride’s Real-time bus location technology in Comox Valley, Canada, as per a report published on My Comox Valley Now. The announcement was made public on Thursday.
“I am very pleased to see NextRide technology coming on board in B.C. communities, which will make transit services more responsive, convenient and accessible to all users,” said Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Canada.
With such facility in place, people will be able to plan their trips more efficiently and track down the bus routes by using their desktop and smart phone. The onboard passengers will be able to see and hear the upcoming stop information as they approach the next stop. These additional features are designed to make BC Transit accessible to all users. Select major bus terminals will have wayside passenger information displays that will also visually display anticipated arrival times.
NextRide uses Automatic Vehicle Location which allows customers to access real-time data on the location of their bus and its predicted arrival time at a stop.
For schedule reliability, NextRide data will allow BC Transit and its partners to improve direct buses for schedule reliability and to more easily convey alerts to customers in the case of detours, accidents or other events that may delay regular routing.
