Facebook is in trouble again: $1.43 million fine for violating users’ privacy in Spain

Looks like Facebook is in trouble once again regarding its users’ privacy. The social media giant has faced a lot of conflicts in the past years and yet again has been fined heavily for privacy violations in Spain.

Recently, Google has also suffered a record breaking fine of $2.7 billion by the European antitrust officials for manipulating search results since 2008.

In order to verify whether the data processing carried out by the social network is in accordance with the data protection regulation, the Spanish Data Protection Agency, AEPD has now issued a closing decision to the company, Facebook.

According to the Spanish DPA, Facebook collects data on ideology, sex, religious beliefs, personal preferences or browsing activity without clearly informing about how and for what purpose it will use these data. The investigation also shows that, Facebook does not inform users in an exhaustive and clear way about the data that will collect and the processing operations that will be carried out.

However, Facebook denied all the allegations on any wrongdoing and said, “As we made clear to the DPA, users choose which information they want to add to their profile and share with others, such as their religion. However, we do not use this information to target adverts to people.
