In a move to expand its portfolio and become a full-fledged hospitality chain, OYO Rooms intends to develop kitchen cloud brands under its belt, three people familiar with the matter stated.
However, the main idea is to standardize food across the company’s properties, OYO Rooms is also seeking to use food delivery platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy to list the brands of the new plan.
Currently, the company is carrying out testing of its cloud kitchen under Adrak brand.
According to reports by Mint, the company was in advanced talks with Freshmenu, a cloud Kitchen startup in order to foray into the online food delivery segment. Mint is an Indian newspaper.
However, a good number of industry insiders, as stated to Mint, there has been some uncertainty over the deal, and OYO Rooms is currently developing its own cloud kitchen brands.
OYO Rooms are looking to include a food category under its brand; mainly targeted towards boosting the business for its hotel partners, apart from leading as a full-pledged hospitality company.
One of the people out of the three said that the company will focus on hotels without any in-house food and beverage services. It will choose locations which have lesser number of restaurants nearby or no restaurants options at all.
The company did not reveal specifically anything about the cloud kitchen brands.
In an email response from a company’s spokesperson stated that the company has an active role to play as it is the largest hotel chain in India.
