All the four entrances to the Monda market in Hyderabad are now closed. Malls in Hyderabad are now becoming a pale shadow of themselves. Jaiprakash, a third-generation vendor inside the market stated that Monda market was a famous mall with separate rows for vegetables, meats, and fishes, the V corner of the market were used by the grain shops. He furthermore stated that the massive rhombus shaped area of the market was covered and this used to be a place where people used to bring their produces in bullock carts.
Over the past 30 years, vehicles that brought in produces began to change with time. All the four entrances that led to the market are now closed and the whole space looks like retail market. The place where the bullock carts used to be parked is now occupied by the vegetable hawkers. Small-sized retailers have exploited the business operations of the meat sellers. They have clearly violated the GHMC Act-1955, according to which “no person, shall without a license from the Commissioner, sell or expose for sale any four-footed animal or any meat or fish intended for human food, in any place other than a municipal or private market.”
