Online retail boom has left ecommerce companies to look for alternative warehousing facilities

In the digital world we live in; there is an ever-growing demand from ecommerce companies, including, JioMart, Flipkart, and Amazon. This has forced ecommerce companies to look for warehousing spaces. Storage crisis has made companies look at other options like auditoriums, marriage halls, high-street stalls, and malls that have looked very dull since the beginning of the pandemic. Last year, ecommerce giant Amazon had announced that it would be expanding its warehousing facility by 20 percent, covering more than 32 million sq. ft. across 15 Indian states. Amazon has also launched many ‘receive centers,’ and this will serve as product collection points for simplifying the logistics.

Jiomart from Reliance Industries is also looking forward to investing in supply chain efforts and logistics. Managing director of Welspun One Logistics Parks, Anshul Singhal, has stated that the majority of the demand for storage is coming from the ecommerce segment, and the companies are now more focused on express delivery or the last mile. Many companies in the grocery department are now looking at options like malls or retail stores to serve them as dark warehouses. This is helping the grocers deliver their products within the four-hour window or same-day delivery to customers.
