Tarragona Refinery: Repsol Joins Hands with Google to Boost up Oil Refinery Efficiency

Tarragona Refinery: Repsol Joins Hands with Google to Boost up Oil Refinery Efficiency

In the recent time, energy companies around the globe are looking for the type of technology that can optimize the energy levels from boosting the performance of drilling rigs to deliver greater returns from refineries. And, tech giants like Google and Amazon is believed to be the better choices that could help the refinery firms to achieve their goals.

An announcement was made earlier this week that the Spanish energy major, Repsol is partnering with Google Cloud to launch a project that will use BigData and artificial intelligence to optimize the management of the Tarragona refinery. According to both the companies, this move will maximize efficiency, both in energy consumption as well as consumption of other resources and will improve the performance of the refinery’s overall operations.

“This initiative belongs to a more comprehensive plan to take advantage of the possibilities afforded us by the latest in technology, and improve industrial processes,” said María Victoria Zingoni, Repsol’s Executive Managing Director of Downstream.

Tarragona is a part of the six refineries that is operated by Repsol in Spain and Peru. The plant has the potential to distill more than 1 lakh barrels of oil per day.

“We are not afraid of aiming for the stars, even if some projects will fail. This is about learning as fast as possible and that machines help people in their work,” added Ms. Zingoni.
