The Vindhyachal high voltage direct current (HVDC), which is located in Madhya Pradesh, India, will now be upgraded by the global tech company – Siemens. This move was initiated by the Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) and the firm had to give the contract to Siemens. Only Siemens is considered capable enough to do it. The HVDC is a 500 MW back-to-back system, which is also considered to be the oldest link in the country. This is used to connect two independent neighbouring transmission networks. This is done through incompatible electrical frequencies or different operating philosophies. Initially, HVDC started in 1989 that aided in the connection of two 400kV alternating current networks. Major regions that were focused on were the Northern and Western regions.
MirkoDüsel the head of the Siemens Gas and Power Transmission Solutions said that the company is proud that POWERGRID puts its trust in Siemens engineering excellence. Also, the firm is looking forward to extending the lifespan of the station. Further enhancing the installation by making it more efficient and will be implementing its state of the art tech. So let’s see how things turn out for HVDC.
