Microsoft-owned social platform, LinkedIn, is all set to launch a feature called ‘Events’, a free feature that allows its users to connect physically. LinkedIn, having more than 650 million users, is a globally recognised platform for working professionals to connect and seek out future career prospects. This new feature takes the efficiency of LinkedIn to a whole new level and allows people to plan events, invite like-minded people to join them and interact in real time. ‘Events’ has currently been launched in all English speaking countries and is set to expand in the near-set future.
“I think there is a massive whitespace for events today. People don’t have a single place to organise [work-related] offline meetups specific to an industry or a neighborhood. People want to find other people. Targeting is not the focus right now. Organic adoption is what we are looking for first before we look at anything else,” said the head of product at LinkedIn India, Ajay Datta. He also said he plans on the feature to take over the professional world in the same way Facebook Events has contributed to casual rendezvous.
This is also a very important milestone for India as this is the first of its kind to be developed in the country at the Bangalore Research and Development branch. There will be a separate Events option available in the interface of the website and the app as well.
