Microsoft has announced on Sunday the acquisition of the Californian conversational AI startup, Semantic Machines. This new move by Microsoft will boost it's conversational AI offerings like Cortana, the Azure Bot Service, and Microsoft Cognitive Services. 

“With the acquisition of Semantic Machines, we will establish a conversational AI center of excellence in Berkeley to push forward the boundaries of what is possible in language interfaces,” said David Ku, CVP and chief technology officer of Microsoft AI & Research.

Semantic Machines is developing a fundamental AI technology to make the interaction between Humans and computers natural. Apart from the Technology, the firm has a marvelous team which includes the league of former Apple chief speech scientist Larry Gillick, technology entrepreneur Dan Roth and two most prominent and innovative natural language AI researchers in the world, UC Berkeley professor Dan Klein and Stanford University professor Percy Liang, as well.

According to Microsoft, Semantic Machines is powered by machine learning allowing the users to discover, access, and interact with information and services seamlessly. Also, to work on language interfaces, Microsoft is going to establish a conversational AI center in Berkeley.

“Combining Semantic Machines' technology with Microsoft's own AI advances, we aim to deliver a powerful, natural and more productive user experiences that will take conversational computing to a new level,” concluded Mr. Ku.
