Taking Over: Extending Education Push Microsoft Acquires Flipgrid

Taking Over: Extending Education Push Microsoft Acquires Flipgrid

Microsoft announces its acquisition of Flipgrid, an online student video discussion platform, earlier this week.

“We’re thrilled to see the impact Flipgrid has had in social learning thus far and look forward to helping them continue to thrive as part of the Microsoft family,” said Eran Megiddo, Vice President of Microsoft.

Microsoft will offer Flipgrid to schools and customers for free. It will also help the Flipgrid community to grow while the online platform will retain its brand and team at Microsoft.

Flipgrid is used by more than 20 million students and teachers around the globe. This online platform allows students to discuss and reply study topics with video clips at home or in the school itself. It is very similar to the process of making a Youtube reaction video on a particular news or subject. Currently, Flipgrid is being used in 180 nations to develop skills in the digital era of creating and sharing video content.

“We’re diligently committed to making sure their platform and products continue to work across the Microsoft, Google and partner ecosystems to benefit students and teachers everywhere,” Mr. Megiddo added.

Microsoft has already integrated the application with its Office 365 for Education. The customers who have already purchased a Flipgrid subscription will be refunded.

“Now as a part of Microsoft, we have the opportunity to scale so we can support every educator across the globe as they empower student’s voice,” said Jim Leslie, CEO of Flipgrid.
