Mixed reality brings people, places, and objects from your physical and digital worlds together. This blended environment becomes your canvas, where you can create and enjoy a wide range of experiences.
With its HoloLens even Microsoft was trying to bring a mixed reality in the form of a head-worn Windows 10 computing device. It immerses the users in a personal computing environment by running the ‘Holographic’ version of Windows 10. But it seems that the Microsoft’s HoloLens has hit a speed bump as Microsoft has been sued by a little-known company known as ‘HoloTouch’ for patent infringement.
Interacting with holograms in mixed reality enables you to visualize and work with your digital content as part of your real world. This comes as the main objective of the project. But according to what HoloTouch has got to say, Microsoft device is an infringement of two of its patents. As per the report in Engadget, the patents by HoloTouch are over a decade old and are related to the holographic imaging technology.
The company tried to get a partnership with Microsoft back in 2006 but got no response. Later the tech giant filed its own patent in 2013, citing HoloTouch's patents as "prior art," a proof that they already know about it. In the filing, the company says that it has again approached Microsoft in 2015 and 2016 to discuss a licensing agreement for the patents, but was unsuccessful. While the authenticity of HoloTouch’s claim may be debatable, there are several instances where patent holders have created big troubles for major firms and now even Microsoft is facing legal troubles for the same.
