Nepal bags a Guinness World Record; holds the highest altitude fashion show

Recently, a fashion show was held at Mount Everest, Nepal and this granted the country an all new Guinness World Record for holding a fashion show at the highest altitude. The purpose behind the show was to create awareness about climate change and promote sustainable fashion.

The event, organized by RB Diamonds and KASA Style in partnership with the Nepal Tourism Board, was held at Kala Patthar (5,340 meters) near the Everest base camp on January 26. The fashion show was a part of the Nepal tourism Board’s ongoing campaign Visit Nepal Year 2020.

Models who participated in the show came from various countries, including Finland, Sri Lanka and Singapore. Ornella Gunesekere – Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2018 – had also participated in the show.

A total of 48 people had started their trek from Lukla to Kala Patthar. The team comprised of models, video crew, makeup artists, medics, the designers and the organizers themselves. The journey of the models in the Everest Base Camp route had been recorded by TV crews and will be made into a reality show soon to be telecasted in MTV USA & Canada during April/May 2020. A pledge was taken by all members of the team to avoid using any products that causes climate change. Nepali Pashmina, Felt and Yak Wool ideal for winter wear had been used in the clothing line during the show.
