Gaana revamps its app to add personalized search and lyrics in the player

Gaana, a music streaming service application based in India, has updated its app to focus on personalized recommendations for users. It has redesigned the music player to give the listeners a wonderful music experience. It has added an option for seeing the full lyrics while a song is playing.

The personalized Music Feed at Search relies on Machine Learning and AI-based algorithms to recommend music to the users after understanding their music preferences. Gaana is depending on Google’s system for the backend functionalities which ensures seamless integration with almost 20 Indian languages and works perfectly.

As informed by the company, it has 80 million monthly active users. “We are taking the genre, singer etc. into account while recommending the next few songs to theusers,”said PrashanAgarwal, CEO of the company in an interview.

One thing that the music streaming application is trying to achieve in its next iteration is to de-clutter the app and provide a premier experience for the listeners. The company is relying on its unique algorithms which are not influenced by the west. “Unlike the Western ecosystem which generally has fixed genres, a verydistinct set of genres exists in Bollywood. Hence, a much more complicated algorithm is required in India and we have been working on this for over 11 months,” he said.

The new features will ensure the existing users stick to the app plus the company earns new users.
