Facebook has selected 6 new research projects from India, for the first time. This is done in order to encourage Artificial Intelligence (AI), and it will mainly focus on three key areas which include; cultural unification and diversity, governance, and ethics in operationalizing the data. Facebook announced an ethics AI award in the month of June and said that the proposed budget for the project should be within 10lakhs to 20 lakhs. And based on this the juries from the firm selected the best projects across the globe, six being from India.
In the Operationalizing ethics category, two projects are selected from IIT (Bombay) and IIT (Kharagpur). Amit Sethi and Animesh Mukherjee will be the principal investigators for this project.The research projects picked for the governance category named, "Ethic implications of delegating decision- makingthe journey to AI systems” have Rahul De from IIM (Bangalore). Another project that got selected in the governance category was “a public law of governance” by SudhirKrishnaswamy, center for law and policy research. Other Researches from IIT (Delhi), IIIT (Bangalore) was selected.
Facebook is introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technologies in its latest software. By selecting projects from various countries, it is not only encouraging many researchers to develop a new technique but also is providing an opportunity for young scientists and researchers to represent themselves and the nation on world’s largest platform.
