UrbanClap—the one-stop store for home services has raised $75 million

The famous Indian startup, UrbanClap has received $75 million in a Series E funding led by Tiger Global.  The company which is a marketplace for freelance labor in India and UAE was founded in 2014.

UrbanClap offers services such as cleaners, plumbers and repairman, and beauticians by matching people who provide this service to the customers. Spread across 10 cities in India, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the platform supports 20,000 service professionals with over 450,000 transactions taking place each month.

The CEO and Co-founder of UrbanClap Abhiraj Bhal told TechCrunch that the company aids offline service workers who have always depended on middlemen or word of mouth to get more work. Furthermore, since it’s a direct model, the service workers earn more while managing their own working hours.

“The UrbanClap model really allows them to become service entrepreneurs. Their earnings will shoot up to two or three-fold, and it isn’t uncommon to see it rise as much as 8X — it’s a life-changing experience,” he said.

Additionally, Bhal explained onboarding process of the service professionals. Around 20-25% of applicants are accepted based on in-person meetings, background, and criminal checks as well as how skillful they are with their work and according to the company, the service is chargeable between $17 to $22.
