An international conference on advanced lung cancer treatments held at Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad

The first international conference and live workshop on Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and advanced lung cancer treatments was held on Sunday in Hyderabad at Yashoda Hospital. Over 200 experts and doctors from India and all over the world participated in the conference and talked about lung cancer and its treatment. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in India. When compared to other cancers, it has the highest mortality rate. However, experts say that early detection of the disease can increase the chances of survival.

The training programme called EBUS Masterclass was one of a kind workshop held to train doctors on advanced lung cancer treatment. It was the first time ever when such a huge event took place in India, which was endorsed by the World Association, European Association, and Malaysian Association for Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology.

“Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Over two million Indians are affected by lung cancer every year. The disease constitutes 7.5 percent of all new cancer cases and 10 percent of all cancer-related deaths in India,” said Dr.Pavan Gorukanti, Director of Yashoda Hospitals. “The disease can be controlled through advancement in targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and other measures,” he added.

EBUS is a new diagnostic tool for lung cancer treatment. It is also helpful in treating tuberculosis and other lung disorders.
