US Defense Secretary Austin Directs Pentagon to provide Required Support to India’s Healthcare Workers

USA's Secretary of Defense Lloyd J Austin III has directed Pentagon to provide material support to India's frontline healthcare workers who are fighting against the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Austin has stated that he is deeply concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak in India and has directed the Department of Defense to use every available resource within its authority to support US interagency efforts to provide India's healthcare workers with necessary requirements.

In the next few days, America will be providing transportation and logistics assistance to deliver the required supplies to India, which includes oxygen-related equipment, rapid testing kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The US is currently assessing the equipment which can be procured from its inventory in the coming days.

Austin further added that the US would continue to work closely with other US agencies and departments and other industries to support Indian partners in their effort to combat the pandemic. This move came after US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris directed towards mobilizing American resources to assist India in fighting against the unprecedented health crisis.
