Medtronic to transform the diabetes treatment landscape in collaboration with Eris Lifesciences

Pharmaceutical and medical device company, Eris Lifesciences has entered into a collaboration with India Medtronic Pvt. Ltd to initiate diabetes monitoring in India. The companies are aiming at channelizing their respective strengths to help patients monitor their diabetes better. In order to carry out the real time evaluation of glucose variability in diabetes patients, Medtronic will bring forth its latest offering, GuardianTM Connect device approved by the US FDA. The device eliminates the need of a separate hardware monitor as it can be connected to smartphones and the glucose levels can be viewed in real time.

Guardian Connect, the Smart Continuous Glucose Monitoring System has unique built-in mechanisms that can predict high and low blood sugar levels in as less as an hour in advance. The device alerts the user through notifications like regular text messages at regular intervals on their smartphones. It also enables remote monitoring alerts through a web app that can be accessed from any device connected to the internet.

There are many cases of diabetes in India, and the country faces a tough challenge to diagnose and monitor sugar levels in patients which is critical in managing diabetes. But new-age monitoring devices like Guardian Connect make monitoring glucose levels convenient and painless. Amit Bakshi, Chairman and Managing Director of Eris Lifesciences commented that it is of paramount importance to do continuous monitoring and develop a holistic approach to medicine and diet for better patient outcomes; and this initiative will be a great step forward to make patients and physicians adopt newer technologies for better health.
