Bombay HC orders fresh testing of Johnson & Johnson baby powder

Bombay HC orders fresh testing of Johnson & Johnson baby powder

The court based its orders on the report of the Central Drug Laboratory in Kolkata

The Bombay High Court ordered a fresh testing of Johnson & Johnson baby powder samples, and also permitted the company to manufacture the products but not to sell the same. This is in line with the Maharashtra government order. The popular baby products manufacturing company, has filed a petition challenging the two orders of the state government ,one to cancel the license and the second order asking the company to stop the manufacture and sale of the company’s baby powder product. The orders were passed by the joint commissioner and licensing authority of the state Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The court based its orders on the report of the Central Drug Laboratory in Kolkata, which found that the baby powder contained a higher pH level than prescribed. A division bench of the Bombay High Court directed the FDA to collect fresh samples from Johnson & Johnson’s factory in Mulund area of Mumbai. The HC posted the matter for further hearing on November 30.
