Now blood pressure can be checked by this new App in Smartphones

A team of scientists, including a few scientists of Indian-origin, has created a smartphone application and hardware that could monitor the blood pressure instantly without any error. This application is likely to show more accurate results than the existing clip devices which are available on the market.

The approach of the device is quite simple as it uses two sensors: an optical sensor on top of a force sensor. The sensory unit and other circuitry are attached to a one centimeter thick case which is connected to the phone’s back. The users can use it by turning the application on and then press the fingertip against the sensor unit. They must hold their phones at heart level to avoid malfunctioning of the application. And they must also ensure that the amount of pressure applied is correct.

This invention would give a convenient option that will help users keep a log of daily measurements which can produce an accurate average with a discounting occasional measurement anomaly. The lead author of the study, Chandrasekhar, said, “We were excited when we validated this location. Being able to use your fingertip makes our approach much easier and more accessible.

"A key point was to see if users could properly apply the finger pressure over time, which lasts as long as an arm-cuff measurement”, a professor stated. So it would be interesting to see how the new application will be effective for the users.
