Recently, Quentin Staes-Polet, GM of Epic games for India and SEA, stated that the gaming market in India is still nascent, and the gamers’ behavior is yet to be identified. Quentin is one of the top developers in the world, and the statement he made is crucial. The gaming market is growing rapidly in India, but the base is small. Previously the bandwidth was very limited, and it was expensive, but now it is cheap. This significantly altered the market in a short period of time. A big developer like Epic Games is facing challenges in the Indian region even though the market size is big. India’s revenue generation is low per user, and Epic Games’ focus is on delivering high-visual and high-quality gaming experience.
Quentin added that India’s gaming market is yet to mature like Europe or Japan, and he has noticed a spike in the number of gaming consoles sold here. Mobile gaming is very much prevalent in India, and the console numbers are comparatively less. Mobile game developers are quite successful in the Indian market. Epic Games is closely watching the business, and they are waiting for the right point of entry. Specific figures were not mentioned, but Quentin stated that there are a lot of players for Fortnite in India.
