Combat of Hero, a martial arts-themed mobile game published by ByteDance-owned Ohayoo studio has become a video game hit in Japan. With this game, TikTok’s rivalry with Tencent Holdings is getting more active. Launched in Japan last December, the casual mobile game has become the most downloaded free iOS title in the market.
PeakX Games, a Shenzhen-based studio, is the mind behind Combat of Hero. The game has become a hit in the Asian market as well. The world’s most valuable startup, ByteDance, has put a toe in the gaming business arena as it has already built a team of more than 1,000 members for its video game business. The company has also acquired some game studios including Shanghai Mokun Digital Technology. ByteDance is building ecosystems that can host multiple services and consist of various platforms to attract new users and retain its existing audience as well. The international success of TikTok could be soon leveraged to promote the company’s video games. Reaching the top rankings hasn’t been a cakewalk for the company as it had invested heavily in ads and promotion through Facebook and TikTok. Music Jumping, a casual game released in February 2019, was one of ByteDance’s well-publicized initial efforts in the games business. To display its advances in the gaming world, TikTok has teamed up with popular online game Fortnite for a promotional activity recently.
