Apple sets a deadline for its game developers to acquire license from the censors in China

Recently, Apple made an announcement regarding a deadline for app developers to comply with Chinese mobile video game laws. Chinese law was enforced in 2016 according to which the game makers who want to have in-app purchases must get a license from the censors in China. Approval for the same is expected by Apple before June 30. Several notifications were sent by apple before but the deadline comes as a new addition. The message sent by Apple states that an approval number must be obtained from the General Administration of Press and Publication of China. The license number must be submitted to Apple before June 30, 2020, from developers who create paid games and games that have in-app purchases.

 The message from Apple indicates that until now they did not comply with this rule before even though they have 21% of market share in China. According to Kantar, the android app stores that function in China is complying with this law since 2016. China is one of the largest mobile games market so it is an important market for Apple. Newzoo, a popular market research firm is expecting iOS to generate almost 53 percent of the total mobile game revenue in China and it is estimated to be around $13 billion.
