FSSAI sets up new amendments and standards for imported decaffeinated coffee products in India

FSSAI sets up new amendments and standards for imported decaffeinated coffee products in India

The Indian government has introduced new innovative standards in the recent gazette which notified that there will be new set of amendments which will be applied to the imported coffee products in the country, especially for decaffeinated ground and roasted coffee, decaffeinated soluble coffee powder with standard packaging charges.

These new sets of rules and regulations are been amended by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as per the food safety and standards regulation of 2011. This newly implemented regulation will be called the Food Products Standards and Food Additives act. The new standard specifies the physical characteristics of decaffeinated coffee products.

“This is a positive move. It will help in bringing new innovative products in the market. So far decaffeinated based products came under the proprietary route. But with regulation, it will be level playing field for all FBOs as products will be standardized. Also, this will help to facilitate trade and bring in imported products in the market,”stated Ritesh Mathur, director, F2F Food and Beverage Consultants, averred.

This new rules and standard set up by the Food and beverage ministry of India will be of great help for the consumers as it will provide the information about the exact methodology of how coffee is being processed as the decaffeinated coffee ensures superior taste with low caffeine content.
