India: Burger King Outdoes its Rival Starbucks in FY18 Sales

In the fiscal year for 2018, Burger King’s sales in India were more than Starbucks. The outlets of both the American Food and beverage brands reported an average sale of almost Rs. 3 crore per year in India, but Burger King left the Coffee giant behind.

“Burger King India witnessed double-digit same-store sales and traffic growth while continuing to open new restaurants at a rapid pace, exceeding all players,” said Rajeev Varman, CEO of Burger King India.

Burger King notched up its sales mainly because of its attractive- entry-level pricing, the introduction of vegetarian menu and expansion of stores across new cities.

In 2014, food giant Burger King made its debut in India. In FY18, it registered a sale of Rs, 389 crores which increased their sales by 66%. Rivals Starbucks rolled out its first store in the country in 2012 but registered with a growth rate of only 28% (Rs. 348 crores).

In terms of store expansion for both the brands, India has proved to be a sanctuary for them to grow their market. Until March 2018, Burger King had 129 stores and Starbucks had 116 stores across various cities.

However, Burger King also beat Domino’s Pizza and Dunkin Doughnuts in terms of per day sale by all outlets across the country.

According to a report, Burger King topped the group with Domino’s Pizza and Pizza Hut in offering foods and beverages at the lowest prices after promotions.
