Computer screen exposes us to blue light which causes Melasma.
The idea of wearing SPF products while working inside a room seems a little absurd, but the sun is not the sole source of damage to your skin. Researchers have added blue light to the Melasma trigging components, such as pregnancy, oral contraceptives, and unprotected exposure to UV rays. So, the science suggests you apply products with sun protection factors to protect your skin.
Blue lights are known as high-energy visible light, or HEV generally refers to the area of the light spectrum between 400-450 nm, closest to UV light (200-400 nm). Computer screens, TV, LED bulbs, video game consoles, smartphones, and fluorescent signs, expose us to blue light.
Blue lights stimulate the skin to produce more pigment through melanogenesis, which causes or worsens Melasma. Blue light can also produce free radical damage to the skin. Free radicals are chemical particles within the body that wreak cosmetic mayhem, causing fine lines, saggy skin, and discoloration.
Applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30 SPF will protect your skin from Blue light and UV radiation irrespective of skin tone. More the SPF, the more protection your skin gets. For optimum results, one should reapply sunscreen every two hours, as sunscreens last two hours on average.
