The BTS singer Jimin has been chosen a global brand ambassador by Dior, underscoring the country's growing significance to the top luxury fashion houses in the globe.
Dior announced the collaboration on social media on Monday, saying that the singer's appointment "solidifies" her friendship with the French fashion house and "continues a bond" with Kim Jones, artistic director of menswear, who has previously designed stage costumes for the K-pop group. Pictures of the 27-year-old star wearing several ensembles from the company's Summer 2023 collection were posted alongside the article. The release noted that Jimin, whose full name is Park Ji-min, "exemplifies the ageless essence and singularity of Dior."
The announcement comes as Dior increases its footprint in South Korea, where each person spends $325 annually on personal luxury goods, the greatest amount in the world, according to Reuters, citing Morgan Stanley analysts.
The fashion brand held its first-ever presentation in the nation last year, showcasing its Fall 2022 collection in Seoul to a star-studded crowd. Jisoo, a member of the girl group Blackpink, was there together with other celebrities like rapper Jay Park and figure skater Kim Yuna. Jisoo is one of Dior's celebrity ambassadors.
