India’s energy woes are continuing to haunt the decision-makers

India’s energy woes are continuing to haunt the decision-makers

Recent activities done by India can be easily characterized by import independence and economic isolationism. Still, the latest reforms and policy changes have tapped into the country's potential and have propelled the growth and energy consumption. The appetite for oil and gas is steadily increasing in India, and this has put a strain on the environment. The only silver lining in the whole ordeal is that New Delhi is doing its best to keep the ambitions high and stay committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. In India, the overall per capita of energy consumption is very low when compared to other large nations. The massive population is, however, the most important reason for the higher CO2 level in the atmosphere.

Even though there are challenges in various forms, the amount of investment for renewables is still at 22 percent. The main reason for the sudden rise in investment is due to the massive effects of climate change. Coal, oil, and gas are required in larger quantities to support the country's overall development. Even though there are few oil and gas producers, it is not sufficient and is making the country depend on the imports. The energy bill is also negatively affecting the country's trade deficit.
