Energy demand in the Southeast Asian region is expected to double by 2040

International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that in the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) the energy demand has skyrocketed to 80 percent since 2000. The region’s energy demand is expected to grow by 60 percent between 2020 to 2040. The Southeast Asian countries will become one of the major players in driving the energy trends of the world. Over the next 20 years, the energy demand will grow at twice the global average based on the region’s economy. To meet the increased demand, most of the Southeast countries are planning to use gas and oil resources. These resources are a mix of imported LNG and domestic natural gas they are expected to be a major contributor to the energy mix.

The oil and gas companies are working on their own regions to meet the ever-rising demands. GlobalData Reports show that almost 54 crude and natural gas projects will be in effect from 2019-2025. The new projects will be done in six countries which are Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. One of the major players in the market includes Malaysia’s Petronas. For now, the most developed countries in Oil and gas sectors are Malaysia and Indonesia but other countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia are known to hold the biggest opportunities.
