The Bolo App: Now Launched by Google to Help Kids from India in Reading English and Hindi

The new app called Bolo is launched by Google to help kids and students of different age in reading and improve skills in communication both in English and in Hindi. This procedure will help them read out loud in order to make them firmly have a grip over the languages. It is initially releasing its beta version after its pilot project that ran in Uttar Pradesh. This project had 900 children who came from 200 villages participating in it. The Annual ASER 2018 reports showed that all of the students who had enrolled belonged to fifth grade, more or less. Only half of them could confidently read the grade 2 textbook.

The main intention of the app is to bridge the gap between the tutor based approaches to help kids in reading. That is why the app featured an assistant named “Diya”. She will be encouraging children to read more and improve their skills, further pushing them to the next level. Diya is programmed to talk in English and in Hindi. Diya is said to appreciate with respect to the response it gets from the kids. Although the app is now restricted to two languages, Google might be expanding it in the future with more languages. This app is said to be free on Google’s speech recognition and speech technology.
