One of India’s biggest conglomerates, Tata Group, is now focused on building an all-in-one ecommerce app for consumer products and services. The app will comprise of all the customer-centric offerings of the group, and the launch is expected to happen in the q4 of 2020. Tata Group wants to build a strong online presence in India because it was forecasted by Cisco that the numbers would reach a massive 900 million by the year 2023. Almost every internet user in the country uses smartphones to watch streamed content, pay for purchases, and shop online.
Tata wants to compete in a race with Walmart Inc’s Flipkart, Amazon, and a newly formed platform by the Reliance industry. Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance has also raised $20 billion from investors; this also includes participation from Google and Facebook Inc. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has invested $6.5 billion to improvise its services in the world’s second-most populous country. Pratik Pal, Digital chief executive officer at Tata, is now in charge of building the new ecommerce app, and it must be noted that Pal has worked at Tata for more than three decades and has been a part of helping the company with the digital transformation.
