Russia's Ozon to open China office to boost cross-border sales

Russia's Ozon to open China office to boost cross-border sales

Ozon says Chinese products are in high demand in Russia

The Russian online retailer, Ozon holdings is opening an office in Shenzen area of China to boost cross-border sales to Russian shoppers on its platform. To grapple with the unprecedented Western sanctions, Russian companies have been working towards boosting their business ties with China. The Russian economy is trying to pivot away from Western markets and create new supply chains with countries like Turkey, Iran and China. Ozon clarified that it had around 10,000 Chinese sellers which are providing goods to Russian customers. China accounts for 95% of sales through its cross-border sales unit, Ozon Global.

Ozon says Chinese products are in high demand in Russia and the most popular orders are usually smartphones, computer parts, laptops and smartphone, clothing items and small appliances. The company however, did not specify when its office will be fully operational. Many international brands restricted their association with Russia after it invaded Ukraine in February.
