The American buying and selling online platform, OfferUp has launched its shipping facility for potential buyers across the US earlier this week. Now, sellers can ship the desired product to the buyers within the local community.
In the new version of OfferUp app for iOS and Android, the feature to browse products across different areas would appear in a different tab called “shipping”. The sellers would have the option to toggle the “sell and ship” button whenever they list a product and then they can weigh the products through the onscreen option (up to 20lbs). The products must be under $500 and should be shipped via USPS. Moreover, the buyers can keep a track on the item’s status through the app as well.
The shipping will be free for the products listed in the app, and once the item is sold, the sellers would receive payments. As a transaction charge, the sellers will have to pay 7.9% of the total profit to OfferUp.
The new introduction will also pit OfferUp in more direct competition with eBay. OfferUp is ranked which it already outranks in the App Store’s Top Charts where it’s No. 3 to eBay’s No. 8 in the Shopping category. But eBay is still ahead in terms of the user base with 171 million active users globally, as of its recent earnings.
“We definitely have global ambitions as a company,” says OfferUp co-founder and CEO Nick Huzar.
