Jeff Bezos, CEO and Founder of the e-commerce giant, Amazon, has remarked that Amazon is doing ‘extremely well’ in India. The remarks came in response to a question on Amazon’s issues over some Indian policies with regard to digitization.
"Regulatory stability is the thing that we would always hope for India. Whatever the regulations are ... they are stable in time and that's one of the things we're hoping will now be true. We'll see," Bezos told reporters during his induction into the National Portrait Gallery. "Our business in India is doing extremely well. It's growing very rapidly," Bezos said.
Amit Agarwal, head of operations for Amazon in India has worked with Bezos for over 20 years and has reported that indeed the company is doing very well in the Indian sub-continent.
Regarding rumours about Bezos running for the White House in 2020, Bezos stated that he has a lot of things to accomplish and is very focused on accomplishing them. Answering another question, Bezos said that he definitely wants to go to space and remarked that he has a great deal of fun in everything he does. Amazon is pumping over 4,400 crores in its various units in India like marketplace and food retail to provide them with leverage over their arch-rival Flipkart.
Amazon and Flipkart have been investing millions of dollars into various operations like marketplace, infrastructure and supply chain management to strengthen their position in the Indian e-commerce market.
