After detecting 180 North Korean warplanes north of the border South Korea scrambles jets amid tension

South Korea's military said after detecting about 180 North Korean warplanes flying north of the military border over four hours on Friday, it scrambled fighter jets.

According to the statement of the South Korean military, the aircraft of North Korea flew north of the so-called tactical measure line, which is drawn up to 12 miles north of the Military Demarcation Line. In response, the South scrambled 80 aircraft, including, F-35A stealth fighters. South Korean military said that about 240 of their aircraft participated in the Vigilant Storm air exercises with the United States and continued to drill.

Last month, to prompt South Korea to scramble jets, North Korea made similar maneuvers by sending a flight of 10 warplanes.

This time the North Korean maneuvers came after the launch of multiple missiles into the sea and the firing of more than 80 rounds of artillery overnight. There is a possibility that they also launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which failed. The launches prompted South Korea and the United States to extend air drills which angered North Korea.
