North Korea said it never supplied weapons to Russia and not planned to

Following the US reports that Moscow was turning to Pyongyang to replenish stockpiles North Korea replied that it has never sold weapons to Russia and has not planned to do so in the future.

US officials said earlier that Russia could purchase artillery shells and rockets from North Korea. The alleged purchase of Iranian weapons and such move of Russia showed that Western sanctions were impeding its efforts in the Ukraine invasion. Any arms movement between North Korea and Russia would violate United Nations sanctions.

In a statement carried out by KCNA, a North Korean state media, an unnamed official at North Korea's defense ministry accused the US, and other "hostile forces", of spreading rumors to pursue its base military and political aims. However, John Kirby, National Security Council spokesman said that the purchases had not been done yet and there was no evidence to say the weapons would be used in the Ukraine war.

Despite using advanced weapons such as cruise missiles Russia-Ukraine war has proven costly for the Russian military. Western weapons used by Ukrainian forces have funneled into the country in recent months and inflicted heavy losses. In July, North Korea recognized two Russian-backed separatist regions in Ukraine for which Ukraine cut off all diplomatic ties with the country. Moreover, the Russian president also vowed to expand their constructive and comprehensive bilateral relations in his letter to Kin Jong-un.
