After weeks of investigation, the hacker is finally caught!

It is not new for a hacker to sell whatever they steal, whether it is phone numbers, passport or other secret information on the dark web. On June 1st, it was discovered that someone was trying to sell some confidential military documents for about $200. As recorded by Insikt Group, the hacker has recently joined a hacking forum and has uploaded screenshots of his findings to sell.

The researchers found in the investigation that the documents were original and an unauthorized person has accessed the Netgear router located at the Creech Air Force Base. The hacker successfully managed to intrude into a captain’s computer and stole a cache of secret documents like Airforce drone manual, maintenance book and a list of airmen assigned to the base’s Reaper maintenance unit. The captain had finished a course on cybersecurity recently. He should have been aware of the necessary action, as suggested by Recorded Future’s Insikt Group.

The MQ-9 Reaper is one of the most advanced and deadliest drones developed so far by the United States and it is currently used by the agencies like The Pentagon, Department of Homeland Security, CIA, and NASA. As it is one of the most technologically equipped aircraft, the data is not safe in the hacker’s hand as it can be misused to access the technical capabilities.

The hacker has been caught by the team and they informed that he has moderate technical skills but is capable of identifying security vulnerabilities. The investigation continues to determine the extent of breaches and the security experts say that it is just a trailer of a more dangerous hacking in future!
