Amazon has made an announcement that it will start training college students about cloud computing across Los Angeles. The announcement was made public on Thursday.

The program is based on the partnership which is made between Amazon and several community colleges around Los Angeles. From September, students across the region will have the opportunity to learn to code in Amazon’s platform on cloud computing; a trending online-based technology which is utilized for storing files and data analytics in the modern world.

Amazon’s web services, i.e. AWS, and California’s cloud workforce along with LA’s community colleges and partner high schools, started a 15-credit certificate program in 19 colleges till now.

AWS and regional community colleges have marked their first ever certificate partnership and will offer participating students experience in the high-demand field of cloud computing.

The program is expected to roll out with 15 credits around different colleges, but Amazon has plans to turn the program into a 2 years associate degree and expand it in all the states. Santa Monica College and AWS have developed the program curriculum.

The partnership with educational institutions is the first regional-level partnership for Amazon.

“This program will prepare L.A.’s residents for sustainable and high-wage careers in one of the most important fields that are transforming business practices in private and public sectors,” said Francisco Rodriguez, Chancellor, Los Angeles Community College District.
