The networking giant, Cisco Systems, Inc. launches UCS systems with AMD processors. The announcement was made last week at San Jose.
“The whole idea being, there is a lot of vendors out there that can bend sheet metal into this shape, but none of them have built a system-level management capability like what UCS has just done," Brannon said,” said Todd Brannon, Director of product marketing for UCS.
According to Cisco, the company provided new tools for their channel partners in the UCS toolbelt. The move paved a way for the company to find new opportunities in high-performance computing environments, cloud-based network function virtualization infrastructure, and public cloud services.
The new UCS system is dubbed as M5 Rack Server Nod and is equipped with two AMD EPYC 7000 CPU processors; the core density of the processor is 128 percent higher than 42RU standard rack of UCS servers. With a storage capacity up to 2TB, every node has 16 DIMM slots with DDR4 memory. It also has a 12G raid controller, a flexible OCP 2.0 network mezzanine slot and a Virtual Interface Card.
For a high density, multi-node solution for maximizing application performance and operational efficiency, the Nodes are powered by C4200 series Rack Server by Cisco. It can be paired with Cisco’s cloud-based management platform. With the platform, C4200 provides architectural advantages with a lower lifecycle for a seamless workflow.
