Compuware Announces Winners of Mobile App Challenge at Detroit Catholic Central

Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR), the technology performance company, announced the conclusion of the Mobile App Challenge at Detroit Catholic Central High School (CC) in Novi, Michigan.

DirectriX–composed of Michael Ryan, Andre Hijaouy, Shaun Hannibal, Jack Evans and August Butzke and mentored by Compuware professionals–presented the winning concept to the judging panel that included:

• CC Principal Father John Huber
• Compuware CEO and President and CC alumnus Bob Paul • CBS Radio Technology Reporter and Editor of WWJ’s Technology Report, Matt Roush
• CC alumnus and former Michigan Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox
• Director, CW Professional Services, Mobile Solutions Group, James Brown
DirectriX was one of five teams that completed the Challenge. In recognition of their efforts, all participating students were awarded summer internships at Compuware world headquarters in Detroit.

“With the massive proliferation of technology and the central role technology plays in the modern business environment, career opportunities in IT, particularly software development, are skyrocketing,” said Compuware CEO and President Bob Paul. “In fact, according to the U.S.

Bureau of Labor Statistics, the expected growth rate for software development jobs from 2012 to 2022 is 22 percent, double that of all other occupations combined. As the largest IT company in Michigan, Compuware understands the vital role today’s students will play in tomorrow’s increasingly tech-driven economy. Programs like the Mobile App Challenge are important in helping introduce our young students to technology and the potential of a rewarding career in this rapidly expanding field.”

The winning mobile app idea, named “Community Connection,” helps volunteers discover, engage in and track their volunteer experiences. The design features a mapping device to quickly locate the volunteer opportunity, the ability to create a user profile and track volunteer hours, and a mechanism for obtaining an electronic signature from the non-profit agency to verify community service.

The objective of the “Community Connection” app is to increase the number of people who volunteer by making the experience easy and enjoyable. DirectriX beat out worthy entries from classmates, including a mobile app solution to improve doctor efficiency in checking patient status and an app to help users organize their social media channels. The Compuware Mobile App Challenge is an innovative program in which students are asked to work collaboratively to come up with a mobile application that addresses a need in their school or community. The Challenge teaches students valuable lessons about teamwork and technology while giving them insights into potential future careers. The inaugural C-MAC took place in the fall of 2013 at Detroit’s Marcus Garvey Academy.
